Essentially the
medium of sound and listening as perception are the intentions for investigation.
Pavel last nite at the pub associated an improv trio he saw as with
heavy metal. Also he related Kafka and the acceptance of the futility
of communication. The all encompassing range of simultaneous rhythms
and sounds. Amelodic, aharmonic. Rob also spoke of the german romantics
finding a truth in studying the world thru the microscopic, reducing
to understand. Listening as learning, making as learning. Learning as
learning.
On this subject of communication, sound is communication of just that:
sound. Of its tactility and physicality where more than one sense is
invited to participate in perception. Various analogue and digital electronic
media, instruments and objects are utilised as means of discovering
secondary spaces which exist through the combinations of sound events
where research into microstructures and miniscule sound events reveals
the multi-directionality of sound and its rhythms intrisic.
Something fundamental to this is the present moment. There is a need
to be present in perception without feeling the coming moment nor being
loyal to a memory of those moments past. A listener may choose to use
the references of the culture which dominates his / her perception,
or they might try to transcend them seeking to illuminate the priorities
which inform likes and dislikes.
The nature of the interface is inconsequential, itīs the interaction
with this as both player and listener which submits to listening and
perception. Whether an an uninterrupted stream or compositional cut,
the essence still lies in the choice.
